Meet Our Artist In Residence

Kate Holden

Kate Holden is an accomplished and award-winning Dance Artist, that has been working in Canada for over 20 years. She has had the pleasure of creating with some of Canada’s most esteemed choreographers and has performed across North America, Europe and Asia. Most of her career has been spent in T’karonto (Toronto) both as an Independent Artist, and as a company member of Dancemakers under the direction of Michael Trent and Danny Grossman Dance Company. Kate is currently Associate Artist with Peggy Baker Dance Projects.

Kate’s formative dance training began in ballet and creative movement with the most magical Pia Bouman in T’karonto. She went on to train at the National Ballet School of Canada for a brief period, followed by a pause from dance life for health reasons. An arts high school, Etobicoke School for the Performing Arts, and the lightning bolt of a dance teacher Gabby Kamino helped Kate find her way into modern and contemporary dance. Kate completed her professional training at the School of Toronto Dance Theatre.

Kate currently lives, plays, works and raises her two children in Lunenburg County.  Her dance practice is influenced by her work as a Craniosacral Therapist and Reflexologist, and her curiosity for finding ease and pleasure in an expansive moving body.  (kateholden.ca)

“I am so grateful to Shannon for this invitation to act as Artist in Residence with Kinship Performing Arts. It’s a wonderful gift to have a studio space to continue my dance practice and I look forward to sharing ideas, knowledge and experiences with Kinship students and the community at large.”
