Studio Policies and Procedures

Everyone Welcome:

KPAC is an inclusive environment and does not judge based on race, gender, sexuality, age, religion, nationality, or physical or mental ability.  All of our students are treated equally and we are breeding a culture of self-acceptance and empathy.  We have NO tolerance for bullying and expect all of our families, staff, and students to celebrate our diversity.

Expectations:

We ask that our students arrive at least 5 minutes early to class so they can settle in before class begins.  Warm up is very important to prevent injury and we’d like to make sure EVERY student gets their proper warm up on the days they attend.  If they arrive late, they will more than likely miss an important part of their warm up.  Please come with a water bottle, comfortable clothing, and proper dance shoes.  If you have questions about what to wear, please ask your teacher.  There is no strict dress code aside from our Intensive Training Program, BUT there are recommendations for our showcases and recitals.  We encourage eating and understand that dance burns A LOT of energy.  We are ok with students eating in between exercises if needed, but not on the dance floor; they must bring their food/snacks to the side of the room or outside of the class.  We ask that absolutely NO outdoor footwear be worn on our dance floors.  Small rocks and pebbles are VERY painful on bare feet.  Also, many dancers lay on the floor and we prefer to keep the floors as clean as possible for their health. Thank you!

Absences:

It is appreciated if families notify the studio via email at kinshipperformingartscentre@gmail.com if their student will be absent.  This will help our staff plan accordingly and notify their instructors of their absence.  Our Intensive Training Program requires 90% attendance since learning the materials for successful exams would be impacted if there were more than 10% absences.  Special exceptions may be made such as health issues, mental well-being concerns, family reasons, etc.

Communications:

We communicate regularly through our studio director registration system.  Please opt in for updates.  We also post our most current news on Instagram and Facebook.  You can also check our website for important notifications.  If you have ANY questions or concerns, please do not hesitate contacting kinshipperformingartscentre@gmail.com.  We strive to respond to your emails within 24 hours.

COVID-19:

Students are asked to stay home when they are feeling unwell or experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 or any other Virus, Cold, or Infection.

After School Program:

One teacher and sometimes an assistant will be at Bridgewater Elementary School at 2:30pm each day to pick children up from school.  The group will meet in the learning centre and have their healthy snack (provided by KPAC) and play until all students arrive.  An organized craft or arts related activity will then be led and there will be outdoor play (weather permitting).  On embedded Wednesdays, pick up will be at 1pm and the the group will walk to our studio location at 777 King St.  where they will partake in singing, dancing, and acting lessons.  Some guest instructors may be present.  Please be sure students have weather appropriate clothing and footwear at all times.  A change of clothes is recommended as well.  Pick up is between 5 and 5:30pm and can be arranged directly with the instructor.  If school is canceled due to inclement weather, COVID lock downs, or holiday scheduling, the after school pick up will not occur.  Parents should have back up care arrangements in case of cancellations or unexpected closures.

Monthly Payments:

Families may opt to pay for their yearly tuition on a monthly basis over the course of 10 months from September to June.  To qualify for these instalments, the first month and last month plus membership fee must be paid upon registering.  If the student discontinues their attendance during any given month, the final month of tuition for the season will be forfeited as a penalty charge.

ProKids, Jumpstart, and Bursary Applications:

We ask that all families in need of financial assistance apply for ProKids, Jumpstart, and or KPAC’S Bursary fund at least 6-8 weeks prior to a semester starting.  Our pricing can be found under Tuitions and the Applications can be found under Scholarships, Bursaries, Jumpstart, and Pro Kids.  If the approval for funding is not received prior to the start date, the family will be responsible for full payment.  We recommend only applying for funding if your household income is less than $50,000 combined and/or if there is a special circumstance that may qualify you.
